The Grenadines are a chain of small islands stretching south from St Vincent towards Grenada. Many are reachable only by boat, which is exactly what makes them special: quiet anchorages, reefs full of turtles and some of the clearest water in the Caribbean. If you want a more remote, natural side of the Caribbean, this is the place.
When to Go
The season runs from December to April, with steady trade winds and dry, sunny weather. The festive weeks book up first, while February to April often brings the best balance of conditions and availability. See our Caribbean season guide for more on timing.
The Islands
Bequia
Admiralty Bay is one of the region’s most welcoming harbours, with Port Elizabeth’s waterfront cafés, boatbuilding heritage and easy walks to the beaches.
Mustique
The famously private island, with manicured beaches, villas and a relaxed but exclusive feel. Yachts anchor in Britannia Bay.
Canouan
A quiet island with a sweeping reef-protected bay on its east side and a well-sheltered anchorage to the west.
The Tobago Cays
A marine park of small uninhabited islands inside a horseshoe reef. Snorkelling alongside turtles here is the highlight of many Grenadines charters.
Mayreau
Tiny Mayreau is home to Salt Whistle Bay, a crescent of white sand and palms that ranks among the most photographed anchorages in the region.
Union Island and beyond
Clifton is the southern hub, with Petit St Vincent and Palm Island close by and Carriacou and Grenada further south.
How a Grenadines Charter Usually Works
Charters typically start in St Vincent, Bequia, Canouan or Grenada, depending on flights and the yacht’s base. A week lets you sail the chain at an easy pace, often heading south with the islands and back again. Your crew will handle customs formalities and plan the route around the wind and swell.
Which Yacht Suits the Grenadines?
Crewed catamarans are a natural fit, with shallow draft for the reefs and wide decks for life at anchor. Sailing yachts enjoy some of the best trade-wind sailing in the Caribbean, and motor yachts can cover the chain quickly and link it with Grenada or St Lucia. Our guide to yacht charter costs, APA and tips explains all-inclusive and plus-expenses pricing.
