Antigua by yacht

Antigua is one of the Caribbean’s great yachting centres. Its historic harbours, sheltered bays and reliable trade winds have made it a favourite with sailors for centuries, and it is easy to reach with direct flights from Europe and North America. Add a day or two in neighbouring Barbuda and you have a varied, relaxed week on a crewed yacht.

When to Go

The season runs from December to April. Christmas and New Year are the busiest weeks. January to March offers steady breezes and settled weather, and the island’s famous sailing week brings a festival atmosphere in late April. For timing and rates across the region, see our Caribbean season guide.

English Harbour and Falmouth

On the south coast, English Harbour is home to Nelson’s Dockyard, a restored Georgian naval dockyard and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next door, Falmouth Harbour is one of the Caribbean’s main superyacht marinas. Together they make a lively base, with restaurants, bars and the view from Shirley Heights at sunset.

Bays and Reefs Worth the Trip

Nonsuch Bay and Green Island

A large, reef-protected bay on the east coast. Calm water behind the reef, kitesurfing and quiet anchorages off Green Island.

Cades Reef

A long barrier reef off the south-west coast and one of the island’s best snorkelling areas.

Deep Bay and Jolly Harbour

Sheltered bays on the west coast for swimming and sunset, with a shipwreck to snorkel in Deep Bay.

The north coast islands

A string of small islands and shallow reefs, best explored by tender with a crew who know the water.

A Day or Two in Barbuda

Barbuda lies to the north and feels a world away: low, quiet and ringed by long, empty beaches, including its famous pink-tinged sand. The frigate bird colony in Codrington Lagoon is a highlight for families. The approach crosses reefs, so your captain will plan the passage for good light and settled weather.

Which Yacht Suits Antigua?

Antigua suits every type of yacht. Sailing yachts make the most of the trade winds, crewed catamarans are ideal for families and shallow bays, and motor yachts can combine Antigua with Barbuda, Montserrat views or a longer run north towards St Barths.
