The Central Mediterranean is one of the most rewarding and least crowded cruising areas in Europe. This sample one-week itinerary, designed for a motor yacht, takes you from our home in Malta to baroque Sicily and on to the volcanic Aeolian Islands. Every charter is tailored, so treat this as inspiration: your captain will adjust the route to the weather and your group.
Day 1
Malta: the Grand Harbour and Comino
Board in Malta and cruise past the fortifications of Valletta’s Grand Harbour, then anchor off Comino for a late-afternoon swim in the Blue Lagoon once the day boats have left.
Day 2
Crossing to Syracuse
Cross to Sicily and moor at Syracuse. Explore the island of Ortigia, with its baroque cathedral square, food market and waterfront restaurants.
Day 3
Taormina
Cruise north along the coast beneath Mount Etna and anchor below Taormina. Visit the ancient Greek theatre, with views across the bay to the volcano.
Day 4
Through the Strait of Messina to Vulcano
Pass through the Strait of Messina between Sicily and mainland Italy, and reach the Aeolian Islands. Swim in the warm, bubbling waters off Vulcano.
Day 5
Panarea and Stromboli by night
Spend the day in stylish Panarea, then cruise to Stromboli after dark to watch the active volcano from the water, one of the most memorable sights in the Mediterranean.
Day 6
Salina
The greenest and quietest of the islands, known for its vineyards, capers and sweet Malvasia wine. A perfect final full day.
Day 7
Lipari and disembarkation
A morning in Lipari, the largest of the Aeolians, before disembarking. Guests usually fly home from Catania or Palermo, or we can arrange a private flight.

Good to Know
- Best season: June to September, with May and October also lovely and quieter.
- Best yacht: this route covers a lot of distance, so it suits a motor yacht. On a sailing yacht, allow ten days or focus on Sicily and the Aeolians only.
- One-way charter: finishing in the Aeolians means the yacht must return to base, so a delivery fee may apply. We can also plan a round trip from Malta.
- Weather: your captain will always adapt the route to sea conditions.
